Cathedral Youth Choir
Boys and girls, aged 8 - 18
Rehearsals: Fridays, 6 - 7pm in Cathedral Hall
The Cathedral Youth Choir is a vibrant community of enthusiastic young people, aged 8 – 18, who travel from across Nottingham sing together in a fun and relaxed music atmosphere.
Led by our Youth Choir Director, Ellie Martin, the choir sing a varied repertoire of both sacred and secular music spanning the centuries, and often sing in two or three parts. Each member is given the opportunity to develop their own musical and vocal skills on a weekly basis through engaging aural games and a focus on good vocal technique.
Recent concerts have included a Good Friday performance of Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, joining the Cathedral Choir for part of Monteverdi's Vespers and most recently, the role of the Sparrows and Fish in the community opera Tobias and the Angel by Jonathan Dove and David Lan alongside Streetwise Opera and children from Music for Everyone.
In addition to their own concerts, the choir regularly lead the music at the Sunday 6pm Mass and the Christmas Eve 6pm Vigil Mass each year at the Cathedral.
Girls, aged 15 - 18
Rehearsals: Fridays, 5pm in Cathedral Hall
Vivace! formed in 2017 with the older girls of the Youth Choir wishing to develop their singing skills. They meet on Fridays before the main choir rehearsal to learn a varied repertoire (by ear), with Ellie Martin, often singing with one or two per part.
Boys with changing voices
Rehearsals: Fridays, 6pm in Cathedral Hall
Responding to the needs of the dedicated young boys in the choir, a new group for boys with changing voices will start in September 2018 alongside our main Youth Choir rehearsals on a Friday. These sessions will work on specially arranged music with the Cathedral's Director of Music, Alex Patterson, again singing one or two per part.
