Choral Bursaries |
Choral Bursaries are available for two highly gifted singers between the age of 16 and 18 based locally in Nottingham.
This exciting new initiative will offer two singers the opportunity to sing with the Cathedral Choir for a period of one year, attending rehearsals and Masses sung by the Cathedral Choir and experiencing the wealth of repertoire and opportunities on offer at the Cathedral. Applicants should be able to demonstrate proficiency with the necessary vocal and music-reading skills for admission to the Cathedral Choir. For more information about the Cathedral Choir, please click here. The value of each Bursary is up to £750. There may also be opportunities to sing for weddings and funerals for which additional fees are payable. Bursary holders will also be able to join in any singing masterclasses arranged during the year. Previous masterclasses have been led by Roderick Williams (2016) and Ruth Massey (2015). How to apply? Applicants are invited to contact Alex Patterson, the Director of Music, directly at to arrange an audition. Applicants are usually required to sing one piece, after which vocal, aural and sight-singing skills will be assessed. The audition itself is a great opportunity for you to talk about your experience as a singer, your aspirations and reasons for wanting to join the Choir at the Cathedral. As part of the audition process, potential Scholars may be invited to 'test-drive' the choir over a weekend, taking part in our Friday rehearsal and Sunday rehearsal and 11.15am Mass. |
