Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 is a towering masterpiece of the
early Baroque - at once intimate and grand, prayerful and dramatic, exalted and sensual. It offers up a dizzying array of textures and sonorities in brilliant instrumental writing, opulent choruses and moving solo arias and duets.
Enjoy this rarely performed work in the beautiful setting of Nottingham Cathedral with the St Mary’s Church Choir, Nottingham Cathedral Choir and Youth Choir with the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble, Monteverdi String Band, organist John Keys, directed by Alex Patterson.
Approximate running time: 90 minutes. There will be no interval.
